MS SQL 6.5 to MySQL Migration

Hi, guys! I've got this migration project from MS SQL 6.5 to MySQL. Anyone who has tried it? I'm currently seeking for the best way to do the migration process. Any issues that I need to expect? Thanks.

sana pabaliktad heheh. MySQL > MsSQL. I am not familiar with MySQL but you can extract out the data to CSV or text and import it to any database out there. It should be pretty easy to do. and vice versa :)

Just remember to take note of the primary key-foreigh key constraints when migrating your data.  How many tables do you have?

Re: MS SQL 6.5 to MySQL Migration

    Updates:

According to them, the backup is in .DAT format. DAT file was extracted from HD of the production server. It's about 9 - 10 years old and contains sensitive data. They've just found out that the DB was corrupted which caused the troubles in opening the DAT file.

I've done some research and found out that only MS SQL Server 6.5 could open that DAT file. Unfortunately, I might not be able to do the migration anymore due to schedule conflict with them. :'(

you can refer PHISSUG to them if you cant do it anymore. Am sure there are still SQL Server 6.5 installers hanging around somewhere :)

Re: MS SQL 6.5 to MySQL Migration

Sorry chean, I cant asnwer accurately anymore on this. I got no 6.5 environment anymore and it would be hard to still provide you with asnwers (not unless anyone out there is still supporting a 6.5 database in production). I have to set it u for you to be able to give you a direct asnwer [:P].

Just in case, you can't resolve this and you want to really migrate a 6.5 DB, i'll take this on a formal consulting engagement. but of course, you got to give it a try first.
